Christmas is just around the corner! We know, it’s crazy to think that this is coming up so quickly! This year, we just know that it’s going to be wild. With restrictions easing tenfold from last year’s celebrations, we know that there’s the potential for multiple cousins to be in the room at once… you know what that means? No, not just mess - we’re talking about the opportunity to get them all matching cousin outfits for fun and to be absolutely ready for the inevitable family photo that’s coming up.

Getting kids excited for Christmas

OK, we know it’s not TERRIBLY difficult to get kids excited about presents and Santa and other fun events for Christmas, but here are some things that we think should be talked about more often when we’re talking about kids and Christmas. You can do these at home before heading to see the cousins or you can do it WITH the cousins to bond!

What decorations are easy for kids to put up?

Start thinking about low to the ground items that are big enough to avoid choking hazards. Here are some easy Christmas or holiday decor items that are easy for kids to put up and help with.

   1.  Window lights
   2.  Christmas gnomes
   3.  Christmas trees (mainly the bottom, of course)
            a.   The star
            b.   All the decor for the bottom branches
   4.  Table settings
   5.  Some outdoor decorations

What Christmas treats can kids decorate?

Now we obviously love a sweet treat for the holidays, and kids can absolutely help out in the kitchen, especially on the decoration side.

   1. Cookies
             a. A favorite! Go out and buy cute shapes (we love these from Target).
             b. We love these cookies from The Spruce Eats.
   2. Cupcakes!
             a. Nothing is as easy as setting up a bunch of frosting and telling the kids to go nuts! 
             b. Here’s a favorite recipe from Ruffles and Rainbows.

These are so fun to do before heading to grandma’s or even as a cousin-friendly bonding experience.
