Hello, friends! I hope you are all having a great September. The month is just flying by so quick, it's crazy!
I of course, love my summer and sunshine but I absolutely LOVE Halloween! I have always loved it but even more so now that I have kiddos. I kind of went all out on some fun ideas for this blog. We have Monster Slime (which is all the rage around my house), homemade play dough that smells SO GOOD and lasts forever! Some decorating inspo that is super affordable, glow in the dark pumpkins, and a yummy chocolaty Halloween brownie! YUM!!
I found a great slime recipe! I don't know about you, but we have had A LOT of failed slime attempts but we finally found a good and we're giving it to you! Plus, these make for the cutest Halloween gifts, which I'll show you how I wrapped them for an easy little handout to give to friends!
Here's what you'll need:
- 2- Bottles of clear glue (I just used Elmer's)
- Purex Sta-flo liquid starch (I found this at my local Walmart, but here is the link on Amazon because most stores do not carry it): https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0042SWOHI/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new
- Food coloring
- Any festive add-ins you want! (I used googly eyes found at Target)
1. Pour both bottles of clear glue into bowl and add food coloring as desired.
2. Mix together well.
3. Add 3 tablespoons of Sta- flo, one tablespoon at a time, mixing between tablespoons. Mix well. Play with it and get it well combined. Just keep adding one tablespoon at a time until it becomes a good texture and doesn't stick to your hands.
Store in a baggy, or air-tight container. I found these little containers at Hobby Lobby as a 4 pack. Then I just tied some cute Halloween ribbon with name tags.
Next up is my play dough recipe. Now, I say my recipe because I created this recipe and it is THEE best you will try! I can't stand the smell of Play-Doh, and all the other homemade recipes just smell like salt, ewe. This one is perfumed with vanilla and almond extract and it's so smooth and lasts for a really long time. You'll want to make this one, I promise!
Here's what you need:
- 2 Cups flour
- 2 Tablespoons Oil (I use coconut oil)
- 1/2 Cup of salt
- 2 Tablespoons Cream of Tartar
- 1 1/2 Cup water
- 2 Teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 Teaspoon almond extract
Pour oil and flour into large pot and stir on medium heat, add salt, cream of tartar, water, both extracts, and continuously stir. This takes a few minutes for it to come together. Be sure your heat isn't too hot. Once it is formed into a dough, take off heat and put on your counter. Knead it for a bit. Divide into however many colors you're wanting to have, I made 3. Then just knead the coloring in. Store in a baggy or air-tight container. I wrapped mine in the same containers from Hobby Lobby and wrapped it with a cute Halloween cookie cutter. SO fun!
The glow in the dark pumpkins were just a fun craft I did with my girls. I bought the plastic pumpkins and glow in the dark paint from Hobby Lobby. I chose to use plastic pumpkins instead of real ones because they wont rot, and I'm a hoarder of my kids crafts and keep them all. So I will have these for years to come! :)
For the yummy brownie wheel. I just bought a box brownie mix and baked it in my angel food cake pan. Bake according to box. Let it cool completely! Then I divided a tub of white frosting into 3 bowls. Microwave each bowl separately for 10 seconds. Once melted drizzle the frosting on the cake however you'd like. Add sprinkles!
And last but not least, the decor! You can find such cute things that are super affordable if you just take the time to shop around. The majority of these finds were at Hobby Lobby, Target, and Walmart. 👍
And now for the COSTUMES! 🙌 OMG, you guys. All of them are seriously so cute!!
Jordyn is wearing the brand new Unicorn Costume. She is OBSESSED with it! The headband with the mane is my favorite part!! You've got to check it out so here is the direct link:
